The British boxing star was handed the fine by the Board for misuse of social media. Last week, the Board's Southern Area Council held a hearing for Eubank Jr, looking into his weight-making for his initial encounter with Benn back in April. 'Next Gen' sent alarm bells ringing after the Brit appeared to have violated the Board's rules.
It came when he posted footage on social media that implied he was using a sauna to make the official weight. Eubank Jr famously missed weight a day before the fight. The 35-year-old weighed 160.2lbs on his first attempt and 160.05lbs on his second and final attempt and was fined £375,000. On the morning of the fight, he was contracted to be no more than 10lbs higher. He avoided another fine after he weighed in at 169.4lbs.
In an attempt to make the weight, it was alleged that he used a sauna to help with the cut - which is against the Board's rules. That said, from evidence provided by Eubank Jr and his team, the Board inquiry ruled that he was NOT guilty of using a sauna on the day of the official weigh-in - but consider him guilty of 'improper use of social media.'
The Board's Southern Area Council said: "Mr. Eubank Jnr. was found to be in breach of Regulation 25 for misuse of social media. The Southern Area Council fined Mr. Eubank Jnr. the sum of £10,000. Mr. Eubank Jnr. was confirmed as arriving late for the official weigh-in ceremony for the contest in question and received a severe reprimand placed on his file from the Southern Area Council."
In an epic back-and-forth encounter, Eubank Jr would eventually go on to get his hand raised on points and - in doing so - handing Benn the first loss of his professional career. "I knew I was capable of that. I just needed someone to bring it out of me," said Eubank Jr. "I didn't expect Conor to be the guy to do that. I didn't know he had that in him, I thought I would break him early. I underestimated him, I didn't prepare for a fight like that. The fact our fathers fought years ago brought out a different spirit and I am happy to have my father with me. He needed to be here. All this is because of him."
Immediately after the clash, Eubank Jr was rushed to hospital for medical attention. An official tweet from BOXXER - the 35-year-old's promoters - read: "On recommendation of the onsite doctor, Chris Eubank Jr has been taken to hospital by ambulance for precautionary checks."
After going the distance, Eubank Jr had a huge cut above his right eye with his face looking battered and swollen, while Benn suggested his rival had suffered a broken jaw, stating: "I wish him well. I know he’s gone to the hospital, I have heard he’s got a broken jaw do I wish him a speedy recovery."
