NPFL Have Approved Insurance Scheme For Players And Officials

The Club Owners’ Forum of the Nigeria Premier Football League has approved life, and injury insurance schemes for the players, and officials of the top-tier league in Nigeria.

The approval was announced at a meeting held by the forum in Abuja, and other resolutions were reached to improve the league ahead of the 2025-26 season.

The enhanced insurance scheme is expected to cater to all the participants in the league as contained in a communique sighted by The WHISTLER.

The forum described the insurance scheme as a step in the right direction towards safeguarding the welfare and career security of players and technical personnel operating in the NPFL.

The communiqué reads as cited by Sports Central: “Enhanced life and injury insurance schemes for players and officials. “The season was marked by an improved matchday organization, near-perfect adherence to fixtures, and enhanced operational efficiency.”

The Forum described the concluded season as one of the most organized in recent history, citing improvements in matchday coordination, fixture adherence, and operational standards.

Among the resolutions passed at the end of the meeting was a vote of confidence on the Nigeria Football Federation board led by Ibrahim Gusau.

The meeting, which was attended by the chairmen of the NPFL clubs and the league’s leadership, also praised the notable leadership of the NPFL under Prince Davidson Owumi and Chief Gbenga Elegbeleye, as well as the leadership of the NPFL Club Owners’ Forum under Chief (Dr.) Okey Kpalukwu.

Other significant resolutions included the adoption of proposed changes to the NPFL Framework and Rules and the evaluation and praise of the 2024–2025 NPFL season, which was hailed as one of the best-run in recent memory.

Rivers United and Abia Warriors were commended by the Forum for guaranteeing Nigeria’s spots in the CAF Interclub Competitions, while Remo Stars FC was commended for their victory in the 2024–2025 NPFL season.

Amidst economic challenges, clubs were encouraged to diversify revenue sources through sponsorships, merchandising, media rights, and other commercial ventures to ensure sustainability.

Emphasis was placed on the need for enhanced security at match venues. State Football Associations were urged to reinforce security measures, recognizing their primary responsibility in this area.

It would be recalled that Remo Stars emerged champions of the NPFL for the first time in their history at the just-concluded 2024-25 season.
