Chelsea Have Reportedly Showed Interest In The Signing Of Monchengladbach Defender

News according to Sports Central has it that Chelsea have a "concrete interest" in Borussia Mönchengladbach defender Matthias Ginter, but the German club are likely to oppose all offers for him.

Ginter has had an impressive season with the Bundesliga side, he also helped them secure Champions League football and, alongside Mats Hummels, is considered the best center-backs in the division.

According to Kicker as cited by Sports Central, his “good performance” did not go unnoticed, with three “big names” in the industry showing interest.

One of them are Chelsea, who have reportedly been looking for a new center-back this summer as they have struggled in that position this season.

In addition to the likes of Atlético Madrid and Inter Milan, the Blues have reportedly made it clear that they have a "concrete interest" in the 26-year-old.

Borussia Mönchengladbach do not want to lose him, however, and manager Max Eberl publicly announced on Monday that the club "will not sell any of our cornerstones" this summer.

However, Ginter's contract situation could play a role. He has a deal that runs until 2021, and while there is an option to extend until 2022 which is "very likely" to be activated, there are still fears that last year will be their last chance to make money on him. .

Inter in particular are "luring" him with massive transfer fees and a salary offer, with which he "would move into the high single-digit million range" in terms of his annual income.

The proposal may prove to be tempting, while Mönchengladbach may also be convinced to sell if it is clear that Ginter is not ready to sign a new contract.

Currently Chelsea are only interested and there is no indication that they have taken a step. However, if they wish, they can act quickly so as not to be beaten by former manager Antonio Conte.
