Jules Kounde In A Fierce Row With Sevilla Chiefs Over Failed Chelsea Move

Jules Kounde has reportedly been left furious that his proposed move to Chelsea never materialised during the summer transfer window and he has been ignoring calls from Sevilla manager Julen Lopetegui and director of football Monchi.

The 22-year-old was clear that he wanted to leave Sevilla over the summer but the La Liga side were also clear that he would not be sold cheaply.

The Blues made and offer of €50m (£42.8m), but this was nowhere near what the Spanish side wanted for the defender, with an asking price closer to €80m (£68.5m) on his head.

While another bid was a possibility on transfer deadline day it never came to pass and Kounde will remain with Sevilla at least until January.

The Frenchman has reportedly not taken this particularly well, with the Spanish Football Podcast reporting that he is ‘furious’ over the situation and has been ignoring calls from the Sevilla hierarchy as a result.

Monchi was very open about the process, saying Kounde was keen to join Chelsea but they simply did not produce an acceptable offer for him.

He said earlier this week as cited by Sports Central: ‘Most of [the approaches were] rejected by the player himself but there was a club that he liked, which was Chelsea. ‘The first and only formal offer was last Wednesday, around five in the afternoon, with an amount that did not satisfy our desires and conditional on Chelsea selling a player. ‘It was an important offer, considering the current world where there are so many hardships, but it did not meet our demands, conditions, or quantities. ‘I spoke to the player’s agent some time ago because the more time that passed, the more difficult it would be for him to leave. We put as a deadline the 20th, and we extended that to the 25th. ‘We responded with a counter-offer with a deadline of last Friday night (the 27th) and they have not responded. Since then there has been no contact. Chelsea’s formal offer, Sevilla’s formal response, but nothing else.

Kounde possibly displayed some frustration playing for France on Wednesday when he was shown a straight red card for a shocking challenge on Sead Kolasinac in the clash with Bosnia-Herzegovina.
