Raphael Varane's Manchester United Imminent Move Reportedly On Hold

New Manchester United signing Raphael Varane has been dealt a set-back after a delay in receiving his visa with the France defender potentially missing out on the start of the season.

Manchester United have suffered a set-back in their hopes of new-signing Raphael Varane featuring in a game for the club before the start of the Premier League season.

The Red Devils announced the £41million signing of Varane last week from Real Madrid, after the 28-year-old agreed to sign a contract keeping him at the club until 2025 with the option of an additional year.

The Telegraph reports the central-defender was expected to fly from Madrid to Manchester on Monday but has hit a stumbling block as he still awaits his visa.

He will first need permission to move to the country before quarantining and having to undergo a medical.

That would mean United may have to wait until next week before they are actually able to complete the French international’s transfer.

This will come as a blow to Man United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who would have wanted to integrate the veteran into his side prior to the first game of the league campaign on August 14.

They will face Leeds United at Old Trafford but it is unclear whether Varane will feature as he is increasingly unlikely to feature in the pre-season game against Everton on August 7.

Without a single minute under his belt to get accustomed to the pace of English football or build an understanding with captain Harry Maguire, Varane may have to wait a little longer for his United debut.

Meanwhile, United still have something to cheer about as fellow new-boy Jadon Sancho could make his debut next week.

The highly-rated youngster completed his £73million move from Borussia Dortmund in July after lengthy transfer saga eventually came to a head.

Sancho is expected to receive his first minutes in a United shirt in the friendly against Everton.
