What Owen Hargreaves Has To Say Concerning Erling Haaland's Next Move

Borussia Dortmund sensation Erling Haaland is hot property in European football right now, but Owen Hargreaves insists the 20-year-old's next move will not be based on money.

Erling Haaland's highly-anticipated transfer decision will not be influenced by money this summer, says Owen Hargreaves.

The Borussia Dortmund sensation, 20, is European football's hottest property right now after scoring 33 goals in as many games in the 2020/21 campaign.

Manchester United, Chelsea, Barcelona and Real Madrid are understood to be eyeing up a potential move for him in the summer transfer window, and reports suggest Dortmund have slapped a £150million price tag on their star striker.

With a host of clubs desperate to sign him, Haaland is likely to spark a bidding war when the window reopens at the end of the season.

However, Hargreaves insists his decision will be based on the next best step for his career - and the former United midfielder believes Lionel Messi may even decide to stay at Barca if he picks the Catalans.

Hargreaves said on BT Sport as cited by Sports Central: “Well he’s at a great club already, but the problem is with how well he’s playing, he deserves to be at an even bigger club. “Whether it’s Barcelona, whether it’s Real Madrid, whether it’s City, whether it’s Chelsea, I think everyone is going to want him. “The question is, can they afford him? For the teams that can, if you’re Barca you don’t want him to go to Real, so the teams will probably end up having to take out a loan. “Because this guy is generational, you don’t want to lose him. If he goes to another team, you can guarantee with better service he’s going to score more goals.

He added: “I think for him now, he’s fortunate that he’s in a position where he’s going to pick the right spot. “It’s not about money, it’s about working out the goal. He went to Molde because they had the best academy, Salzburg he wanted to take the next step, Dortmund. “This isn’t going to be about money, it’s going to be about, ‘what’s the best step for me in my development’.” “I think if he goes to Barcelona, Messi stays. That’s how important he is.
