The Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) has restated its dedication to enhancing the quality and visibility of the league. This commitment is highlighted by the inclusion of four NPFL players in Coach Eric Chelle's 39-man provisional squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers.
NPFL Chairman Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye welcomed the selection, emphasizing the need to create opportunities for NPFL talents to shine nationally and internationally.
"The inclusion of Kayode Bankole, Ahmed Musa, Ifeanyi Onyebuchi, and Papa Daniel Mustapha in the provisional squad is a testament to their hard work and the quality of our league," Elegbeleye stated. "Consistency will pave the way for more NPFL players to follow in their footsteps."
Elegbeleye also underscored the importance of increased TV coverage, live streaming, and growing followership to ensure NPFL players gain the recognition they deserve.
He added as cited by Sports Central: "By expanding our platforms, we increase opportunities for our players to be seen by national team selectors.
When asked about establishing a dedicated technical team to monitor NPFL players, Elegbeleye expressed confidence in the Nigeria Football Federation's (NFF) technical department, led by Austin Eguavoen.
He explained: "The NFF is doing an excellent job scouting talents, and we're committed to creating avenues for our players to be seen and appreciated.
The inclusion of NPFL players in the provisional squad demonstrates the league's growing influence and potential. With continued efforts to improve visibility and quality, the NPFL is poised to become a hub for nurturing future national team stars.
