Jorginho Welcomes Squad Competition As He Reveals Chelsea Readiness Ahead Of Sevilla Clash

Chelsea to start the Champions League game against Sevilla tonight, with some changes expected to be made and some key players will be rested.

Frank Lampard revealed in his press conference that some fringe players are knocking on the door and having already qualified for the knockout phase of the competition. Now is the time to let some players rest for the weekend.

One of those players who is likely to benefit from the rotation is Chelsea’s current vice-captain Jorginho. He is largely missing out in a starting role behind N’Golo Kante as things stand, so he may well come into tonight’s starting line up especially due to the fact he was the player speaking alongside Lampard at the press conference yesterday.

The Italian international welcomes the competition though and says it is good for the team, which is a great positive attitude to have especially in such a large squad.

Jorginho said as cited by Sports Central:  reported by the Chelsea website: “It’s a big squad so we can make changes and keep the level of the team high. “That’s a good thing for us. Competition is good because it makes the level of training higher and means we have to work even harder to have a chance to play. “Everyone wants to play but the most important thing is that we try to win and that we are winning. When the call comes, I’m working hard to be prepared for that.

Another player who could start after a mainstay warming the bench, is striker Olivier Giroud, and Jorginho was speaking about the French international also…

The Italian midfielder said: “Everyone loves him because he’s such a nice guy and he deserves it. “I was so happy for Oli because of the person he is, the way he works every single day with a smile. “He brings so much to our group, not just on the pitch but in the changing room as well so when I saw the ball going in, I was just so happy. That’s football and that’s why I love it. You never know what’s going to happen and in that moment it was an amazing feeling.

And on Sevilla, he said: “We have big respect for them because they are very organised.“We will need to press well and it will be a game for details because it’s a high level of football.

He added: “It’s a big opportunity for us to try to win the group. We know finishing on top is a big thing so we’re going to try to win the game to do that.
