Real Madrid Could Replace Karim Benzema With Inter Milan Striker Lautaro Martinez

Inter Milan vice-president Javier Zanetti says he is calm regarding Lautaro Martinez's future at the club.

Amid reports that Real Madrid have asked Inter for more information regarding Martinez as a potential candidate to replace Karim Benzema should he leave the Spanish club this summer.

Zanetti said as cited by Sports Central: "I can honestly say that the club has not received anything regarding that. It's normal when you have players like him in your squad for clubs to come for them. But we are very calm. If that situation arises, we will listen. But Lautaro is a very important part of Inter's present, and he is a reference player for us. I'm calm because I see that Lautaro is happy with us. I'm not worried."

The Argentina forward has scored 28 goals and set up 11 more in 55 appearances to help Inter reach the Champions League final. A World Cup winner with Argentina, Martinez is in his fifth season at Inter and is under contract until June 2026.

Zanetti said: "When we acquired him, he was young, but we knew what he could give us. "We didn't make a mistake in signing him. He has improved every season and he is a reference point for us and for the national team. He has a winning mentality. He is humble, he is committed. That is why he makes the difference. He is our captain. Nothing has been given to him, all that he has he has worked hard to earn it."
