Real Madrid star Federico Valverde has admitted comparisons to Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard by Luis Suarez are 'spectacular'.
The Uruguayan midfielder has risen to become one of the most highly-rated midfielders in Europe due to his performances for the LaLiga giants in recent years.
Through this, his compatriot Suarez revealed that his box-to-box style of play reminded him of his former Liverpool team-mate Gerrard.
This season, Valverde has improved his goalscoring output as he has netted four goals in ten games this season, having only previously scored six in 145 appearances.
These compliments have delighted Valverde as he is happy to see his performances be compared to the likes of a 'world icon' in the ex-Reds captain.
The 24-year-old told Infobae as cited by Sports Central: 'It's spectacular when you are compared to such a player, to a star, a world idol, not just a Liverpool one. It's amazing. 'I see characteristics of him, obviously, I'm not going to say no, but one always looks out for oneself.'
Suarez had told Marca: 'There are newspaper archives, back in 2017, when Fede made his debut in the national team, I already said that he reminded me of Steven Gerrard, who was a team-mate of mine at Liverpool.'
The midfielder has attracted interest from some of the biggest European clubs, including Gerrard and Suarez's old side Liverpool.
The Reds are believed to have failed with a late £86.5million swoop for him in the final days of the transfer window, but the Madrid side rejected the bid.
Valverde has distanced himself from further transfer speculation as he has insisted that he wants to 'make his mark' not only for his international side but also for Los Blancos.
He added: 'I also want to leave my name and my mark in the world of football, not just at Madrid but in the national team..
