AFCON Qualifiers: Shaky Eagles Edge Past Sierra Leone In Abuja

Nigeria super Eagles have topped Group A of the African cup of Nations qualifiers, Afcon 2023 that will be host by Ivory Coast.


This is Super Eagles first win in five matches since their embarrassing loss at the last Afcon in Cameroon and their failure to beat Ghana to qualify for Qatar World cup.


Leone Stars played Nigeria at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja on Thursday.


11th minute goal by Jonathan Morsay put Seirra Leone ahead but Alex Iwobi's solo shot from the left wing help Nigeria equalise in the16th minute.


However, 40th minute strike by Victor Osimhen's header put Nigeria in front.


The victory have reduced pressure on the Super eagles team and their new coach Jose Peserio - this is his first win since he tokm over role from former coach Augustine Eguavoen.


Sao Tome and Principe as well as Guinea-Bissau are the other teams in the Group.


Meanwhile, it's only two of the four teams will qualify for Afcon 2023 in Ivory Coast.
